Give Slater a Chance ❤️🐾
Who wants to give a fella a chance? ❤️
This boy doesn’t need your pity. He needs your love, your compassion, and maybe a warm place to snuggle up and feel loved again.
If I had to compare Slater to a cartoon character from my era, I would have to say Papa Smurf! 💙
Why, you ask?
Because this handsome boy was the patriarch of his little family. In the Heights, a kind Samaritan had been feeding and looking out for the cats. Slater would lay down with a pregnant female and one of his offspring, caring for that kitten as if it were his own.
He would snuggle with the baby. Groom him. Watch over him. ❤️
Eventually, we knew we needed to do something.
Our amazing Samaritan kept vigil every day after work, stopping to help these babies and working to trap them. The kitten had already made incredible strides toward becoming an indoor baby, so we hoped we could give Slater that same chance.
And now here we are.
Meet Slater. 🐾
Sly. Charismatic. Handsome. And quite the character!
This boy absolutely LOVES attention. The more pets, the better! At first, he’ll put on a little show like he’s uncomfortable with all the affection, but honestly, I think he’s just learning what it’s like to be loved and cared for. After spending most of his life outdoors, adjusting to indoor life is going to take some time.
Right now, Slater has settled into my Catio beautifully. But my plan is to transition him indoors and see how he does.
My dream for him would be a home where he can live safely indoors but still have access to the outdoors through a secure Catio or screened-in porch. 🏡🐈
We never planned on moving Slater from his territory. But between the railroad constantly zipping by and a landlord who wasn’t exactly welcoming to the cats, we felt we needed to try another route.
And then there was something else that really concerned us.
Under the circumstances, we were worried that poor Slater could intentionally be hurt when no one was around. That’s not a chance we were willing to take.
So now we’re giving this boy a chance at something different. ❤️
Slater is approximately 2–3 years old. He is:
🐾 Neutered
💉 Vaccinated
🪱 Dewormed
🦟 Treated with flea & tick prevention
🧪 FeLV/FIV negative
🐕 Low key calm cat friendly dogs
🐈 Cat friends preferred
And as you can see from these pictures… this boy is quite the cheese ball! 😂❤️
Whether he’s soaking up the snuggles or clowning around for the camera, Slater is showing us more and more of his personality every day.
He doesn’t need pity.
He just needs someone willing to give him a chance.
